DUNGEON MONITOR TRAINING MANUAL
revised © June 2004
by Mistress Laya Thomas

This manual is intended to be an introduction and a quick reference for those
people willing to learn and accept the responsibilities of overseeing the
activities and maintaining a dungeon in the capacity as a Dungeon Monitor.
This manual distinguishes the Dungeon Monitor as being a different capacity
than the Dungeon Keeper- mostly responsible for setup, sanitation,
maintenance and repairs; and Dungeon Master- one highly knowledgeable in
the psychological, physiological, spiritual dimensions and medical treatment
that may be necessary to administer as a result of sadomasochistic activities.

The role of the Dungeon Monitor is an important one and is necessary for
retaining the integrity of public BDSM (Bondage & Discipline; Domination &
Submission; Sadomasochism)  play.  Hopefully, this manual will be a reference
guide for both experienced and new Dungeon Monitors that wish to support
safe, sane and consensual power exchanges.

In this manual, the use of  the terms “Top” and “bottom” is consistent as it
addresses forms of play and does not discuss protocols, ceremonies or rituals.
Terms are nongender specific.  BDSM and D/s may be used interchangeably
for the purpose of this discussion.

The information in this manual is not stated as being true for all dungeons.
Certainly each dungeon has some specialized precautionary matters to take.
It is important to discuss those details with the dungeon manager or event
coordinator prior to the start of an event.  First Aid and CPR training are a
minimal requirement for training in any dungeon setting.

The “Dungeon Monitor Training Manual” was written as a guide that can be
used in metropolitan Atlanta and can be adapted for use in other communities.
Special thanks to my mentors Grand Master Larry and Mistress K as well as
dungeon manager Country for editorial comments.   Many thanks to Sir
Lawrence for his permission to use some of the concepts seen in his “Dungeon
Monitor Training Manual” used at APEX (Arizona Power Exchange).

Respectfully,

Mistress Laya Thomas
